What this tool does NOT check
- That the account actually exists. An IBAN can be perfectly written and match no open account.
- That the holder is who you think. Your payment provider checks that when executing the transfer.
- That the bank accepts SEPA instant transfers.
Why this works offline
An IBAN carries two check digits calculated from the rest of the number using a public algorithm (ISO 13616 and ISO 7064). If someone mistypes a digit, the calculation stops adding up. So you do not need to ask any bank to spot a typo: you just redo the maths.
What next
If the IBAN belongs to someone else and you are about to send money, also check the name matches the account holder exactly. It is the number one cause of held payments.

Is it safe to paste my IBAN here?
Yes. The check runs in your own browser with JavaScript. The IBAN does not travel to any server, including ours, and is not stored anywhere.
Does a valid IBAN mean the account exists?
No. This check confirms the number is correctly built, not that it matches an open account. Only the destination bank knows that, when the transfer is executed.
Why does it say invalid if I copied it from my bank?
Usually a character got lost while copying, a letter O was typed instead of a zero, or the country code at the start is missing. Copy it again in full, without extra spaces.
Can I share my IBAN safely?
An IBAN exists so you can receive money: giving it to an employer or a client is normal and necessary. What you never share are passwords and verification codes.
